What is DBT Group Skills Training?
DBT group skills training teaches self- acceptance and change skills to redirect unhealthy patterns of thinking and acting towards better alternatives which are optimal for emotional regulation, greater sense of calm, confidence and healthy relationships both towards oneself and others.
What are the four DBT skill set modules?
The 4 skill sets covered in DBT group skills training are:
Mindfulness skills teach you how to live in the present moment without judgment of yourself.
Distress tolerance skills teach you techniques that help you survive a crisis without making the crisis worst.
Emotion regulation skills teach you healthier ways of understanding and experiencing your emotions.
Interpersonal effectiveness skills teach you how to manage interpersonal conflicts, maintain healthy relationships and end destructive relationships.
Is the group facilitator available for 24/7 phone consultations?
No, they are not. It is important to have a therapist that you are currently seeing and are able to reach out to trusted people in case of need.
Is the group facilitator accepting any new individual clients?
It is not advised that the group leader see any clients individually. Rather that each group participant has their own therapist to process issues as they arise.
Do I have to be seeing a therapist from BETA to be admitted into the group?
No, Any independently licensed therapist is sufficient.
How old do you have to be to attend this group?
This group is currently being offered to adults only (18 yrs and older).
Is this group a woman’s only group?
No. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to participate.
Do I have to be experiencing suicidality to be admitted into this group?
No. DBT is an evidence based treatment model that has been shown to have benefits for anyone who is having difficulty managing stress.
Will I be able to skip group sessions?
No. 100% attendance is required with the exception of illness.
Will I be able to share the content of the group with loved ones?
Participant information shared within this group setting is confidential. However, we do encourage that you share skills training educational material with anyone who could benefit from it.
